Lions And Jewels

Lions and Jewels is a collection of artwork that draws inspiration from the 1959 play by Nigerian Nobel prize winner Wole Soyinka. The play chronicles how Baroka, the polygamist Lion, fights with the modern Lakunle over the right to marry Sidi, the titular Jewel. Using a mixture of digital art and oil on canvas, These pieces explore two core themes of the story, traditionalist vs modernist, bride price & the marginalization of women as property. This will be Hamid's first solo showcase in Los Angeles, where he will be displaying this growing body of work. It is the duality of digital & oil, men & women, young & old that Hamid is juxtaposing with the themes of the story, that he welcomes the audience to critique
